Louis Jacobs Legendary Bartender

The Legend of Papa Lou

  • If you were part of the business lunch and dining or bar trade community in Buckhead /North Atlanta back in the 80’s and 90’s, the chances are you have come across a most unique character with a distinguishable handlebar mustache. You might have met him from across the bar as he mixed you a Manhattan at one of the finer area steak houses like Bone’s or Ruth’s Chris.

  • Perhaps you were a bartender yourself and were a participant in a tasting seminar led by Lou Jacobs featuring the great and incomparable Kentucky Bourbons. Maybe it is because Lou was born in Louisville that he could never quite divorce himself from those finest of brown whiskies. Perhaps it was his time in Tallahassee at FSU and the influences of the Gulf Coast life style including the Cajun flavor of New Orleans and Louisiana that got Papa Lou into the nuances of a well-made Bloody Mary.  For sure, memories of southern cooking growing up and the recipes that lovely ladies have shared with him have inspired his craft cocktail formulations.

  • His original bartending gig was on Captiva Island hanging out literally in the Gulf of Mexico. Rumor has it that at this spot more Bloody Marys are consumed per capita than anywhere else in this hemisphere. Young Louie learned early all necessary to one day create his own proprietary Bloody Mary Mixes.  The only missing ingredient was the rich experience one can only gain in the stream of life. During the years as the trade’s favorite “Whisky Peddler” and then as a pioneer craft mixologist, Lou continued his quest for the perfect Bloody Mary.

  • So, after more than three decades, in 2015. Papa Lou introduced his unique and exclusive line of original Bloody Mary mixes.  Now, Papa Lou’s Bloody Mary mixes are available in restaurants, bars, and retail stores throughout Georgia, at Total Wine & More locations in South Carolina, and expanding.

  • You are invited to connect with Papa Lou and share your “I NEED a Bloody Mary” stories.

Have a Merry Day
